From Gang Life to the Field

A few weeks back, we lost one of our village community members to kidney failure, he was 22. It was a really difficult day, really week, but God. Out of that difficult experience, we began to build relationships with many of the older boys in our community. We began building relationships with some of the hardest cases. These faces below being some of them. Our team gathered and decided it was time to start a Marked soccer team. We invited the boys to join, and join they did.

On May 11th, we were invited to one of the top private schools to play against their team! Not only did they get to leave their village, 1/2 of them for the first time in their life, but they got to play, on a real field against a real team! Gang life set aside for the day, simply for these 19 boys to be boys.

We may have lost the game, but we feel like we won the day. We have never seen more smiles and heard more laughs coming from this group!

We shared a meal together, and then took them to one last stop, the Chivas (professional team) stadium where we encouraged them to dream big. That gang life isnt the only way, that there is so much more!
