Introducing.. Our New MARKED Base in Chalpicote!

Presentamos... ¡Nuestra Nueva Base de MARKED en Chalpicote!

Just look at the view we have from this location. To us, it is just the echoing of the truth that when we truly follow God, trusting in His timing and His plan, things work out more beautifully than we ever could have imagined.

Mira la vista que tenemos desde esta ubicación. Para nosotros, es simplemente el eco de la verdad de que cuando verdaderamente seguimos a Dios, confiando en Su tiempo y Su plan, las cosas salen más bellamente de lo que jamás hubiéramos imaginado.

The dream we have had of establishing a center in Chalpicote to strengthen connections and make support more readily available in this community has become a reality. Thanks to our growing outreach and partnership with the local elementary school, the people of Chalpicote are welcoming MARKED with open arms.

El sueño que teníamos de establecer una base en Chalpicote para fortalecer las conexiones y hacer que el apoyo esté más disponible en esta comunidad se ha hecho realidad. Gracias al crecimiento del ministerio en las calles y asociación con la escuela primaria local, la gente de Chalpicote está recibiendo a MARKED con los brazos abiertos.

With this momentum, it only makes sense to have a base of operations closer to these families. Though only a 15-minute drive, this area is a very long, hilly walk from Casa MARKED has made it a challenge range of activities and programs we can for families in San Pedro.

Con este impulso, tiene sentido tener una base de operaciones más cercana a estas familias. Aunque está a solo 15 minutos en auto, esta área es una caminata muy larga y con muchas subidas y bajadas desde Casa MARKED, lo que la ha convertido en una variedad desafiante de actividades y programas que podemos realizar para las familias en San Pedro.

Located closer to those we serve, this space opens up endless opportunities to make a lasting impact. While we're still shaping our programs beyond our weekly visits to the school and street outreach, we're excited to create a welcoming space for the community that will no doubt, be filled with kids soon! We will keep you updated on our progress. First step is to clear out brush and trash to make this plot of land a safe, welcoming space for our new neighbors!

Ubicado más cerca de aquellos a quienes servimos, este espacio abre infinitas oportunidades para generar un impacto duradero. Aún estamos dando forma a nuestros programas, viendo más allá de nuestras visitas semanales a la escuela y la extensión a las calles. Estamos muy entusiasmados de crear un espacio acogedor para la comunidad que, sin duda, pronto se llenará de niños. Te mantendremos informado sobre como va avanzando todo. ¡El primer paso es limpiar la maleza y la basura para hacer de este terreno un espacio seguro ybonito para dar la bienvenida a nuestros nuevos vecinos!

A beautiful start to 2024 | Un hermoso comienzo al 2024

Vacations may have come to an end but the holiday fun certainly has not! Thanks to your generosity this Christmas season, we were able to celebrate in local schools, Casa MARKED and this week, we brought presents to children in the streets of another village, Chalpicote.

Puede que las vacaciones hayan llegado a su fin, ¡pero la diversión navideña ciertamente no! Gracias a su generosidad esta temporada navideña, pudimos celebrar en las escuelas locales, Casa MARKED y esta semana llevamos regalos a los niños en las calles de otro pueblo, Chalpicote.

It brought us great joy to surprise the children with the gifts and to have the opportunity to show them that they have not been forgotten. With these gifts, we shared with them that they are special and so very loved. What a beautiful start to 2024 we have had so far! It has only been one week but already we have seen so many smiles, served hundreds of meals and welcomed families back to daily programs at MARKED!

Nos dio mucha alegría sorprender a los niños con los regalos y tener la oportunidad de demostrarles que no han sido olvidados. Con estos regalos les compartimos que son especiales y muy amados. ¡Qué hermoso comienzo de 2024 hemos tenido hasta ahora! ¡Solo ha pasado una semana pero ya hemos visto tantas sonrisas, servido cientos de comidas y dado la bienvenida a las familias a los programas diarios en MARKED!

We cannot wait to see how MARKED can be used this year to continue to bless, feed, educate, and equip the families across the Ribera Chapala and beyond. No podemos esperar a ver cómo se puede ser utilizado MARKED este año para continuar bendiciendo, alimentando, educando y equipando a las familias de toda la Ribera Chapala y más allá. Al empezar este nuevo año, extendemos una invitación para su participación continua. Se más que donante; se socios en la notable historia que Dios está escribiendo a través de los esfuerzos de MARKED. Su compromiso, oraciones y apoyo ayudan a crear un impacto duradero, elevando a las personas y comunidades necesitadas. ¡Trabajemos juntos para ser catalizadores del cambio que transforme la desesperación en esperanza, la oscuridad en luz y la pobreza en prosperidad en México este año!

Goal after goal | Gol tras gol

Just like we have over the past few years, we were again invited by a local school to help coach children and get them ready to compete at a regional athletics competition. As usual, schools from across the county came to participate, and many with advantages that our team did not like more access to resources in their schools, experience with competitive sports and even more time preparing. Yet, to everyone´s surprise, our kids, the 24 kids from San Pedro came out victorious! Out of all of the groups and schools who participated, it was our team that won the most events!

Al igual que en los últimos años, una escuela local nos invitó nuevamente a ayudar a entrenar a los niños y prepararlos para participar en una competencia de atletismo regional. Como siempre, asistieron escuelas de todo el municipio, y muchas de ellas con ventajas que nuestro equipo no compartía: mayor acceso a recursos en sus escuelas, experiencia con deportes competitivos e incluso más tiempo de preparación. Sin embargo, de sorpresa para muchos, ¡nuestros niños, los 24 niños de San Pedro, salieron victoriosos! De todos los grupos y escuelas que participaron, ¡fue nuestro equipo el que ganó la mayor cantidad de eventos!

Track & Field Competition | Competencia de atletismo

Each child won at least one medal and many went home carrying two or three. It was incredible to see the childrens´ faces. They arrived nervous and unsure of themselves but left jumping and smiling, proudly holding up their medals to show their friends. That´s when we knew our goal had been met. It wasn´t about winning. We. as well as their P.E. teacher Mr.Jorge have believed in them from the start but it was evident that now, these kids believe in themselves. That is our goal: to empower.

Cada niño ganó al menos una medalla y muchos regresaron a casa con dos o tres. Fue increíble ver las caras de los niños. Llegaron nerviosos e inseguros de sí mismos pero se fueron saltando y sonriendo, sosteniendo con orgullo sus medallas para mostrárselas a sus amigos. Fue entonces cuando supimos que nuestro objetivo se había cumplido. No se trataba de ganar. Nosotros. así como su profe de educación física, Jorge creyó en ellos desde el principio, pero era evidente que ahora estos niños creen en sí mismos. Ese es nuestro objetivo: empoderar.

COMMUNITY THROUGH SOCCER | COMMUNIDAD A TRAVÉS DEL FUTBÓL

Later in the week, our director organized for some soccer-loving boys in a neighboring village that we have gotten to know well through outreach in the streets to come to San Pedro to play a game! While the boys were thrilled at the idea of playing in a real game, they were also nervous to come to another village due to dynamics related to gang violence and conflict between the areas.

Luego en la semana, nuestro director organizó para que algunos niños amantes del fútbol en un pueblo vecino que hemos llegado a conocer bien a través de repartir comida y pasar tiempo en las calles, vinieran a San Pedro a jugar un partido. Claro que los niños estaban entusiasmados con la idea de jugar un juego real, pero también estaban nerviosos de venir a otra zona debido a la dinámica relacionada con temas de pandillerismo y violencia entre las zonas.

We were not sure they would be, but on the day of the game, all the boys were outside, all ready and excitedly waiting for us to pick them up! Before taking them to the soccer field, we made a quick stop at Casa MARKED, a brave and wise decision by our community center director. Why? So the boys could meet the children in MARKED, the ones who come for daily programs and play on our soccer teams. The boys shaking hands and introducing themselves was much more than an icebreaker. It was groups setting aside their differences and preconceived ideas, truly getting to know one another. It was young men extending the same kindness, respect, and community that they have experienced in MARKED, to others.

No estábamos seguros de que lo estuvieran, pero el día del juego, todos los niños estaban afuera, ¡todos listos y esperando emocionados a que los recogiéramos! Antes de llevarlos a la cancha de fútbol, ​​hicimos una rápida parada en Casa MARKED, una decisión valiente y sabia de nuestro director del centro comunitario. ¿Por qué? Para que los chicos pudieran conocer a los niños de MARKED, los que vienen a los programas diarios y juegan en nuestros equipos de fútbol. Que los chicos se dieran la mano y se presentaran fue mucho más que una forma de romper el hielo. Fueron grupos que dejaron de lado sus diferencias e ideas preconcebidas y se conocieron verdaderamente unos a otros. Fueron jóvenes que extendieron a otros la misma amabilidad, respeto y comunidad que habían experimentado en MARKED.

Soon, it was time for the game so we headed to the soccer fields . The whistle was blown and they started to play. Both sides played hard but clean and with respect, which was a shock to those watching. A well-respected member of the community was passing by at the time. He stopped to watch the boys play for a bit then, he came up to us and said, “Thank you for bringing together these communities”.

Another goal met.

Pronto llegó la hora del partido, así que nos dirigimos a los campos de fútbol. Sonó el silbato y empezaron a jugar. Ambos equipos jugaron duro pero limpio y con respeto, lo que fue un shock para quienes miraban. En ese momento pasaba por allí un miembro muy respetado de la comunidad. Se detuvo un rato para ver jugar a los niños, luego se acercó a nosotros y nos dijo: “Gracias por unir a estas comunidades”.

Otro objetivo cumplido.

Everywhere we go, across villages and various programs, our goals are to be love, to build community, and to empower families. It´s about showing others that things do not have to simple stay the way they are because that is how they have always been. Together, if we believe how things could be and take the necessary actions families can live the way they should be- thriving.

Dondequiera que vayamos, en los pueblos diferences y diversos programas, nuestros objetivos siempre son: ser amor, construir comunidad y empoderar a las familias. Se trata de mostrar a los demás que las cosas no tienen que quedarse iguales simplemente porque así han sido siempre. Juntos, si creemos en cómo podrían ser las cosas y tomamos las medidas necesarias, las familias pueden vivir como deberían: en prosperidad.
